Silva captures strawweight title

ONE Warriors of the World Doesn’t Disappoint

Another thrilling night of ONE championship action with Warriors of the World being headlined by the Strawweight title of the world. Alex Silva took on reigning ONE champion Yoshitaka Naito from Japan in Bangkok.

More contenders emerged from the night of matches as Christian Lee put the former ONE lightweight world champion away in one round. Riku Shibuya put his name out there for a strawweight title shot with a slick, tenacious guillotine.

Here is a run down of the action.

Strawweight World Championship

Yoshitaka Naito Japan vs Alex Silva Brazil

I last seen Alex Silva fight live in Manila and boy was I impressed. He ate his previously unbeaten opponent alive on the ground and finished him inside of one round to set this title shot up.

The Main Event

First round was an all striking affair as  not one take down was tried from either man. Silva got the best of the exchanges especially with his leg kicks as he chewed up Naito’s movement. Much more of the same for the majority of the second round and it forced the champion shoot with 20 seconds to go in the second.

Another big round from the challenger with much more action from both guys in this round. Silva is showing striking like we have never seen before from him. The BJJ world champion is still yet to attempt a take down and is slowly taking the title away from the champion  via strikes! Amazing performance so far.

Championship Rounds

Well would you believe that after 4 rounds of action, Little Rock has not attempted one take down. A much better round for the champion then with a take down at the end of the round. Pretty close on the feet but could see that round being given to the champ.

The final round starts and Silva comes out strong firing leg kicks at the damaged Naito leg. It has not seemed to slow his movement that much though and he is now imposing his will on Silva and takes him down once more against the fence. Naito starting to land some ground and pound now but Silva gets up and Naito is coming on strong. This is when Silva decides he will go for his first take down of the fight!

Great action and the crowd is loving it. The two are clinched against the fence and are really showing a full display of martial arts in this battle for the crown. Naito is definitely winning the round and coming on strong, but there’s only a minute left. Silva works back up to his feet, amazing cardio from both men at an amazing pace. The champ tries his hardest to take Silva’s back but he denies him, gets back to his feet and starts unleashing again. Great last 10 second flurry from both but for me Silva has done enough.

The ground specialist put on a stand-up clinic to become the ONE Strawweight World Champion!

Lightweight

Shannon Wiratchai Thailand vs Rasul Yakhyaev Russia

A very lengthy feeling out process by the two co main eventers. Wiratchai tried to lull the Russian into a sleep with his hand movement whislt moving on the outside but not a lot happened until the last 15 seconds of the round when the Russian took his opponent down and neary got a rear naked choke. Saved by the bell perhaps for the Thai. In the second round, after receiving a yellow card for slow action…not too much else happened. The last 45 seconds provided the most entertainment again, however this really needs to heat up to fire the crowd back up. Better finish to the fight but probably the weakest fight of the night thus far. Disappointing for the home crowd after a hot night of fights until then.

Featherweight

Christian Lee Singapore vs Kotetsu Boku Japan

Well this was one of the fights we here at Ramen Choke Hold were really looking forward to. We did our featured article on teenage superstar Christian Lee this week which you can read here. He took on the former ONE lightweight world champion Kotetsu Boku in what was surely a title eliminator. Wow is all I can say. What a display by The Warrior. He never looked in trouble and put his opponent away with a vicious suplex and a ground and pound finish. He looked twice as fast as Boku and totally dominated the former lightweight champion. Could Martin Nguyen be in his future? It can’t be that far away.

With an astounding victory, the young lion’s path to gold is becoming much clearer!TV: Check local listings for global broadcast | PPV: Official Livestream at oneppv.com

Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke Thailand vs  Riku Shibuya Japan

Full action from go to woah. For most of the round Riku Shibuya had home town warrior and former ONE world champion Dejdamron Sor Amnuaysirichoke in a guillotine choke. He eventually after several readjustments got the tap and crazy eyes put his name in the ring for a title shot.

Atomweight

Rika Ishige Thailand vs Rome Trinidad Philippines

This match touted 2 models against each other but the fight was anything but pretty. That however did not stop it from being one of the most entertaining matches of the evening. Both competitors looked so happy to be inside the cage doing what they clearly love doing. The first round went back and forth with over hand rights vs kicks. The second seen “Tiny Doll” come on strong and nearly finish the fight on the ground twice before finally getting it done by rear naked choke. Very impressive pace put on by Ishige in the second and put a very game Rome Trinidad away early.

 Strawweight

Xiong Jing Nan China vs April Osenio Philippines

Wow a fast paced round by the 2 strawweight ladies. They were very evenly matched on the feet early but then the Chinese lady took Osenio down. Xiong Jing Nan had a guillotine locked in for around a minute and the Filipino somehow got out but when they went back to their feet it was total chaos! The Chinese warrior pushed forward and the 2 ladies exchanged until April fell to the mat and the ref stopped the contest. What a debut by Xiong Jing Nan! I am a fan now!

ONE commentator, Micheal “The Voice” Schievello on point once again making watching a ONE broadcast just that much more exciting.

 Featherweight

Sagetdao Petpayathai Thailand vs Jimmy Yabo Philippines

Yabo said he was going to stand up with Muay Thai legend Petpaythai, yeah dont do that. The crowd sounded like they were watching a muay thai fight with every strike the thai man threw. He ended up peppering Yabo’s body with kicks and ended up finishing the fight with an immaculately placed knee to the liver in the clinch. Would love to see him tested by someone with some wrestling credentials.

A hat-trick victory for Sagetdao “Deadly Star” Petpayathai!TV: Check local listings for global broadcast | PPV: Official Livestream at oneppv.com

Yodsanan Sityodtong Thailand vs Dodi Mardian Indonesia

Former Super Featherweight World Champion Boxer 43 year old, Yodsanan Sityodtong took on Indonesia’s Dodi Mardian. Both men were happy to sit in the pocket for the first minute until the Thai champion stung the Indonesian with counter hook. Not too long later it was the big kaboosh call from The Voice as he nailed Mardian with a straight left to the jaw. WOW! Do not stand in the pocket with a former world boxing champion! When asked “What drives him to get better every time in the cage?”, he said “I am feeling great I’m feeling healthy I’ve still got the hunger in me to keep fight to keep improving”.

Yodsanan Sityodtong lives up to his nickname of “Little Tyson.”TV: Check local listings for global broadcast | PPV: Official Livestream at oneppv.com

 Strawweight

Kritsada Kongsrichai Thailand vs Rabin Catalan Philippines

The impact arena in Bangkok was going crazy for their local star as he impressed greatly taking out the Filipino Catalan with relative ease. Kongsrichai made his 6th first round finish and impressed with flashy, blitzing strikes on the feet. He then, after earlier letting his opponent up to his feet, took Catalan down, mounted and dropped an avalanche of elbows on his opponent. Very entertaining fighter and can’t wait to see him tested by the toughest ONE has to offer at Strawweight.

Bantamweight

Tang De Pan China vs Asraful Islam Bangladesh

A great scrap to open the evenings fights. The Chinese Tang De Pan was very aggressive and  moved forward for the entire 15 minutes. Asraful showed great heart and technical striking but overall, I and the judges seen the power, aggression and control all going for the Chinese man. Pan controlled his opponent for the majority of the first round on the ground and the next 2 rounds on the feet. One to watch at Bantamweight. Not a disgrace by Islam.
