Mei Yamaguchi On Angela Lee Rematch: “I Don’t Think Her Fight Style Will Change”
Mei Yamaguchi took part in what many consider the greatest title fight in ONE Championship history.
Back in 2016, she faced off against Angela Lee for the inaugural Atomweight Championship and put on a show for the ages. After a back and forth struggle for twenty-five minutes, the judges awarded Lee with the unanimous decision victory.
Although a slew of fans objected to the outcome, the Japanese MMA talent did not whine and whimper but instead went back to the drawing board and started her ascension back to the top.
Three fights, a title bout cancellation, and 24 months later, Yamaguchi is finally getting a shot to redeem herself and capture the title that slipped her grips.
She will challenge ONE Championship Atomweight Champion Angela Lee at ONE: Unstoppable Dreams on May 18 in Singapore.
In this interview, Mei Yamaguchi talks to John Hyon Ko about being influenced by Olympic athletes while attending high school, the training methods differing in Japan compared to the United States, working on her boxing, the differences going into the rematch against Angela Lee and more.
